Our Mission Statement
Hummingbird Lawyers was created out of a shared desire to deliver exceptional, prudent and client-focused legal services across various areas of practice while offering all members of its staff a collegial and respectful work environment within which to grow as humans and contributing members of the wider community. We are committed to practicing law with excellence, integrity and innovation, and strive to ensure that each client receives personalized, strategic legal advice at competitive rates.
History
The firm began when 4 friends who enjoyed each other’s company and respected each other’s skills opened Fortis, Muyal, Bhathal and Desai LLP on February 1, 2011. Not long after the firm rebranded itself to Hummingbird Lawyers LLP on May 10, 2013, to embody a new identity with a renewed vision of providing specialized legal services across multiple practice areas using the latest technology.
Why the name Hummingbird?
We took the re-naming and rebranding seriously to ensure a name was selected that reflected the core values of the firm rather than the names of its founders. Hummingbirds have the largest hearts and brains in relation to their body size of any other animal in the animal kingdom. A single Hummingbird can pollinate up to 1,200 flowers a day and remembers exactly which flowers it has visited. It is the only animal that can move up, down, forward, backward, side-to-side and hover.
These traits are what we value and aspire to in the delivery of legal services: big hearted and smart, exceptionally productive with excellent memories and being remarkably versatile.
Why is the logo a chess piece?
Gifted designer, Josiah Jost from Alberta, has an incredible ability to create iconic logos that use both positive and negative space.
The chess piece is the knight, the oldest piece and with a unique moving pattern and representing the best of nobility – honour, integrity, decorum, just, and competent. And embodied within the Knight, the astute eye will note the silhouette of the Hummingbird in the negative space. A perfect combination demonstrating our name and core values.
