Jagjit (Jag) is a founding partner of Hummingbird Lawyers LLP and Lead Mediator of the Hummingbird Family Mediation Centre.
He holds an undergraduate degree (suma cum laude) from McMaster University and a law degree from the University of Toronto and since his call to the bar in 1998, Jag has practiced almost exclusively in Family Law.
Jag has appeared at all levels of court, including the Supreme Court of Canada and regularly acts on a variety of family law files, including matters of divorce, equalization of net family property, spousal and child support claims, parenting plans and decision-making responsibility (previously custody and access) arrangements. His practice also includes the preparation and negotiation of separation agreements, marriage contracts, and cohabitation agreements.
Jag’s many years of experience along with a strong background in finance and economics makes him adept at understanding financial statements, the valuations of privately held companies and intercompany related transactions
Jag brings a fair and practical approach to family law resolutions. Having trained in collaborative family law and earning his family law mediation certificate from Riverdale Mediation, his focus is on pragmatic solutions, not protracted litigation, which isn’t in anyone’s interest. His goal is to lower conflict and find a path forward towards amicable resolution.
When Jag isn’t practicing law, mentoring, or assisting in the growth and operations of the Firm, he can be found on the golf course with clients, friends and/or colleagues.
